The Rwenzori Mountains Development Association (REMODA) in Uganda asked BeeSupport for financial support to build a beekeeping trainingscentre as well as for training, tools and materials to make beehives
The organisation is located in Kasese which lies in the eastern part of Uganda en operates mainly in the Kyabarungira area, one of the subcounties of the Kasese District.
REMODA was formed in by locals in 1998.
The aim is to develop sustainable agriculture and beekeeping in cooperation with the people of the Kasese District to generate income while protecting their natural habitat at the same time.
REMODA heeft van een aantal imkers, die in totaal al 425 traditionele bijenkasten hebben, het verzoek gekregen om een afdeling voor bijenhouden op te starten. Zij willen veiligere en productievere imkertechnieken leren en imkergereedschappen en modernere kasten leren maken.
In Kyabarungira hebben ook al andere groepen van vrouwen, mannen en jongeren aangegeven, het imkervak te willen leren. REMODA vertegenwoordigt deze groepen als overkoepelende organisatie naar fondsgevers toe.
