Procedure

BeeSupport is an organisation that supports local beekeeping initiatives in developing countries. BeeSupport can only exist in combination with these projects.

No project – no BeeSupport.

Our projects are:

  • Kutsungirira Beekeeping Club in Zimbabwe
  • Kesogon Self Help Group in Kenya

BeeSupport chooses the projects. Projects must conform to the following conditions:

    • the promotion of beekeeping by providing courses;
    • small-scale and environmentally friendly set-up;
    • the project-members initiate, further and guide the project;
    • submission of a written proposal, including funding for 1 or 2 years;
    • submission of a written account of the progress and finances of the project;
    • submission of a final written report, both on the result of the project and on the financial situation at the end of two years;
    • submission of a new two-year plan if thought necessary.
  • BeeSupport supports projects in the following ways:

 Financial means

 BeeSupport raises the necessary funds by:

- making our aims known through publications, presentations, lectures and exhibitions;
- manning stalls on bee and environment markets and Open Days;
- applying for subsidies from Dutch charity organisations such as the   NCDO, Stichting Doen, Wilde Ganzen, MIVA.

Guidance

BeeSupport has regular contact with the projects and helps them with the submission of plans and budgets for subsidy applications. The first step in a project is usually the finding of a piece of land that is, or can be made suitable for beekeeping. Since our projects are often in poor and dry areas, the first need is to grow trees and plants, provide a good water-supply and build a fence. Then provision of facilities for giving courses and the means for obtaining hives, protective clothing, smokers and other tools are needed.
